The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition Review

First released on the Gameboy Advance and later a parallel counterpart made for the Gamecube system, the game has finally arrived yet again, with a feature we've all been waiting for. As an anniversary gift from Nintendo, fans with either a 3DS or DSi were given an enhanced version of the game which would allow both single player and wireless local multiplayer.

Funny thing is, I thought it would have been released during the date, 9/28/11, but instead it was a release date for Europe and Australia, which I'm ok with, but I had been so excited that day to get up in the morning before school and just download it and try it for a while. After finding out that it wasn't released on that day, I didn't really go crazy to be honest, just a little disappointed, but then I found out it was going to be released in the U.S the next day.

As you start up the game, you'll notice the game logo in front of you and a blinking "A" button sign at the bottom screen. Once you have clicked on that you'll notice that there is a "Begin" button, and a "Help" button. Once you have clicked on "Begin", you have to make a nickname. Afterwards, you will have the option to either play "Multiplayer (local wireless)" or "Single player". You will then have the choice of what color your partner will be if you have chosen "Single player", with the assumption that you already know that your color is set to green. Unfortunately, the game does not come with a multiplayer, and I see no reason for it not to, since we have already seen a multiplayer mode for Phantom Hourglass. Then again, if we thought about this for a while, you'd know that the release date for this free gift would have extended, but it would have been worth the wait.

If you're playing the multiplayer mode with your friends you'll notice that the format of the game is competition based, which means that you are fighting for how many rupees you'll get, followed by battling bosses and getting through various levels.

The game has a total of four stages which include; Death Mountain, Talus Cave, Sea of Trees, and finally Vaati's Palace. Each stage contains a few levels and finally a boss in each stage. There are puzzles for you to solve, rocks for you and your partners to lift, and enemies for all to destroy. The game features some special stages from older Zelda games such as The Legend of Zelda. The graphics of the game are clear and colorful, and the sounds presented in each level bring a spark of memory back from when playing the older version.

Overall the game was fantastic, I haven't beaten the whole thing except for defeating Vaati, but I mean all of it including the new stages. Anyways, the game is highly addictive, plus the fact that you can mess with your friends by picking their character up and throwing them into an abyss (haha). I highly recommend downloading this game off of the Dsi shop, or the Nintendo 3DS eshop.
