Mario Kart Wii Review

Intro

Hey everyone, I'm back with another review on the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart Wii was first introduced to the Wii in 2008 and was a big hit. The game comes with a Wii Wheel and the game itself.

Review

The game doesn't really have a story mode, but just an overall racing mode consisted of Grand Prix which allows you to race in three engine classes (50cc, 100cc, and 150cc), a Battle mode that contains both Balloon Battle, and Coin Runner mini games, and finally a Time Trial mode. The game also has a multiplayer mode which allows the player to play with people worldwide in an all-out racing match.

Here are the modes in depth; let's start off with the Multiplayer mode, which is consisted of three options for online play which are Worldwide, Regional and Friends. If you choose the worldwide mode, you will be racing with people worldwide, and now that time has passed on after the release of the game, obviously people know how to cheat in order to come in first place, but let's step aside from that. If you choose "Regional" you will be playing with people within your region. And finally theirs the Friend mode which allows you to play with friends. The great thing about Multiplayer mode is that you can allow one more person to play with you if you have an extra Wii remote.

The controls to play the game are quite easy to comprehend with especially with the Wii Wheel. The Wii Wheel allows accuracy as well as racing through areas with ease. Now, you may also use the Wii remote, but I'd highly recommend using the wheel, but then again it's your choice. There can be difficulty while drifting especially with motorcycles, then again if you use karts or other vehicles besides motorcycles it's easier to drift through places without hitting something. Ah, I forgot to also mention that the game is compatible with the Gamecube controller which is a huge relief, since most of us are quite skilled and familiar with the controls of other Mario Kart games. One of the greatest features in the game is that while racing, if you happen to ride on a bump or a ledge, you can perform tricks to accelerate through areas, which I think in my opinion is quite unique.

The areas in the game are made vivid and it's quite easy to see through areas when racing. Many of the maps are quit astounding and bright. Most maps are quite difficult to navigate through, like when racing through thin pieces of land and such. The game has a very well structured concept of racing games and has a vibrant display of maps and vehicles alike. I highly recommend getting this game.

Overall

  • Gameplay: 10/10
  • Controls: 10/10
