Review
Mario Kart DS is an astounding racing game developed by the Nintendo EAD. The game presents elaborate scenes of the racing area as well as many great features displayed across the game. The game allows you to choose between 13 characters to use in races as well as a variety of karts and other vehicles you can use during races.
The single player mode is a set of challenges and races, you are able to use all 13 characters, but not all vehicles are available to you unless you win them by constantly winning in races presented in the single player mode. The single player mode is consisted of 5 game modes; The Grand Prix, Vs., Time trial, Battle and Mission. To win the most vehicles you must do well in the Grand Prix, vehicle prizes vary depending on what engine classes you win in. Engine classes go from 50cc to 150 cc (50, 100, 150*).
The Multiplayer mode is consisted of Nintendo Wi-Fi compatibility as well as local player mode. For the Nintendo Wi-Fi mode, you can play with players worldwide or play with players within your region; you may also play against friends and rivals that you've already played with. Since the release of the game many people have been learning how to cheat, to win races so your Wi-Fi experiences may vary depending on who you play with. For the local connection mode, you are able to play with people who have the game and are within your area or radius, as well as people who don't have the game, but just like other games, people who do not have the games have limited features upon playing with people who do have the game. The local player mode is consisted of 3 modes, Balloon battle which allows players to attack each other with items until one person is left standing with a balloon left, Shine runners which is consisted of racers who chase each other to collect shine sprites, and finally just plain ol racing.
The controls for playing the game are quite simple and not very difficult to comprehend with. The game also allows the player to drift for turning using the L and R buttons on the DS. Though sometimes drifting can be difficult with some vehicles if you are bumped by your enemy on near an alley or the edge of a street which is quite fair seeing that this is a strategic move to slow down the enemies speed. The graphics are astounding, the scenery of racing areas are vibrant and well designed. I highly recommend getting this game. Will Mario Kart be more amazing on the 3DS? Who knows.
